On Friday 21 September, almost  30 members of the Coral Ridge Sail & Power Squadron made the trip to Miami to board the S/S Fascination, part of the Carnival Cruise line fleet, for a weekend trip to Nassau, Bahamas.

Meet (most of) our group!

but let's get underway!

Wow!  No sooner were we on board, but we began to find folks we knew! And... we were bunking on the same deck!  Welcome aboard everyone!
We got our bags into our rooms as soon as possible and began to explore the ship.
Everywhere we turned, we saw someone else we knew!  Is that one of our members up on the "topless" deck????
Wow, that is some kinda smoke stack! Looks like it is ready to jump overboard.  Talk about a classy way to "blow smoke"!
The word was out... FOOD.  No sooner were we settled in, then it was time for a small snack in one of the dining rooms....
Finally, we cast off and are underway!  We watch Miami fade into the distance.
We went up forward, and watched as we cleared the Port of Miami.
We were all seated at the early sitting, and had about 5 tables, all for us!  Wow, have you ever had a cruise dinner?  Wait til you see the FOOD!!
Welcome, Duncan and Helen, to the beginning of of a FUN cruise!
W
More happy folks await their meals..
Kay Alexander, our wonderful cruise organizer, fills us in on some of the details of our trip.
We could have as many main courses as we would like.

Lobster tails and roast beef were among the main courses offered night one.

We were able to watch out the dining room window, our Coast Guard escort out to the 3-mile limit, as part of the increased security.
After dinner, it was time to burn off all them calories!!  You could find members of the squadron at various spots on the Promanade Deck, dancing ourselves silly, till it was time for the shows..
We weren't allowed to take photos at the show, but Coral Ridge members took up several front row seats!
Lena holds the door open on one of the "heads".

The design was rather colorful and interesting, don't you think?

Well, you can't take the "early riser" outta some folks, so here is the sunrise in Nassau harbor...
We got off the boat after breakfast, and decided to head to Atlantis.. the biggest change to the island of New Providence in the past 25 years.  Ya gotta see it at least once....
We took a "native boat" to Paradise Island, previously known as Hog Island.  Check out those cruise ships!  Fascination was not alone!
Whoa...! As soon as we arrived at Atlantis... we knew this wasn't a small folksy kinda place...
Who can resist doing tourist pictures at Atlantis.

Mike and Lena pose for a picture in front of the fountains outside of Atlantis.

There is no question that the most amazing part of Atlantis is their aquarium.  While most of it is visible only through an expensive tour, the view from just outside the Casino is breathtaking.

Ask Lena, Barb and Mike .. who are completely entranced...

(My favorite photo of the aquarium!)
No trip to Atlantis  is complete without a walk through the gardens, and seeing a view of this famous hotel.
We can look down on the aquarium from above and see all the beautiful fish.

Oh.. for a fishing rod....

Mike and Barb take a break on the walkway around the aquarium and grounds..
We return to the Fascination for lunch, and find that the sun worship folks have never left!
Some folks were just enjoying the boat and its' lounges and pools..
It had been many years since this writer had been to Nassau, and we found a driver who had been doing this for 37 years.  His tour took us to places that hadn't changed in all those years....
We ride through old streets and neighborhoods. Nassau still very Bahamian, once you are away from the casinos.
We visited the 66 steps of Queen Victoria.  It hasn't changed a bit, right down to the natives selling trinkets to tourists.  We are grateful to "Tony" for taking us up to this site to renew old memories.
Saturday evening is the night to get "gussied up".
Yup, the evening to dress up for dinner.  We meet outside our rooms and then gather at a lounge before dinner. Look at how good we look!
Tony, you wild wild guy you....
We have photos promised to us by a passenger at the post dinner deck party Saturday nite, but they are not available at the moment.  So, this is how we looked as we await Customs checkout on Monday morning.
Well, pictures are worth a thousand words.  It was a great couple of days, allowing us to put much of our worries and concerns on the "back shelf".  We had a great time, and hope to do similar cruises in the future - hopefully with less concerns about our National condition.

God Bless America.
