On the
weekend of 1-3 October, many members
of the
squadrons in District 8 gathered together
to discuss
boating education and to socialize.
Friday
evening was the " Merry Olde England" party,
complete
with costumes and a "Power of Fun" talent show.
The
Mohlers were originally
members of Coral Ridge Power Squadron.
Mike
and Marlene
Herbig made quite the English couple!
The
Teateros
are truly frolicking street urchins!
The
Allens look very
festive and British... or is that Bahamian?
A while later,
everyone
would see why Dean was befriending Marlene....
The Shulke's
won
for best dressed couple. They look pleased!
Kay
Allen won the prize
for
best individual costume.. oh.. fair maiden!
Dean
Jackson stole the show with
his
"Red Dress" rendition. Thanks to Marlene for the dress
and
Kay for the hair... a karaoke freak has been born.
Dean dedicated his
next song, "What about NO don't you understand"
to his "good friend Bobby".
Here
is Dean's
"good friend Bobby", tickled pink by the dedication...
Don
Mohler does his standup routine.
Don
and Lil
Mohler do some Gershwin tunes together.
Jane
Turner sings.
Carla
Wiggins of
Homestead
is the winner with her country & western songs.
She
will represent D/8 at the National "Power of Fun" in Orlando.
There
was dancing
to finish
up a great party. Meetings follow the next day.
Laura Teatero
can
almost always be found at the sign-in desk on Saturday.
The
First Timer's
table
is well staffed as it is located in the foyer where friends meet.
There
were small sessions scheduled, such as the Membership Committee
below,
as well as the earlier morning Expo - a popular new event.
The afternoon
is when the General Meeting is held.
D/C
Nigel Hargreaves
takes the podium and calls the meeting to order.
National
Representative
R/C
Joseph Mesenberg, delivers the Chief Commander's message.
Our
Commander
Carin
Imhof accepts a Bowsprit Award for Coral Ridge.
D/8
Commander
Nigel
hosts a reception after the conference, before the dinner.
Peter and Laura
are
looking fine as can be in their formal uniforms.
The
Allens
together
with our Coral Ridge Commander Carin.
Captain
Don
from St. Lucie talks with Eunice and Dean.
Commander
Carin
talks with a first time attendee at a district meeting.
Our
D/8
well-dressed and extremly hard-working bartenders.
A
meeting of
good friends, enjoying fine food and drink.
There
was a wonderful selection of hot and cold munchies.
Later
the Dinner Dance follows. Considering the difficulties
and
damage experienced by so many squadron members, this
weekend
meeting proved both educational and a break from
all
the post-hurricane clean-up. A grand time was had by all.
